side two: 1. new millennium 2. story 3. honesty 4. underground man 5. long way from nowhere 6. since you never ax'd me 7. maltodextrin bean rag
The first tape of the new millenium.....or whatever.....this one feels like it took a millenium to come out, even though it's a shortie at just a smidgin under an hour......but i spose that's too personal for here.......one thing that isn't too personal is that there's a lot more dobro on this tape than on most of the others ones, (excepting 'live at radio free soundworks' of course)........so for all of you who are wicked big fans of the "Resonator guitar", there will hopefully be some sounds here for you to enjoy....the first song contains a funky wah wah pedaled acoustic guitar , dobro, and drum duel with the occaisional reference to cleaning your teeth with a scratch ticket........there even might be an actual 'folk' song on side one, but 'normal' is definitely not it. 'normal' is more of the inbred church with the pine needles on the floor and the spastic kid with the crew cut playing the tambourine again......sort of like on hit record vol. III only much more personal........flat world is a very sad song.we hope that some day tammy wynette will get a hold of it and squeeze.
Side two starts of with 'new millenium' which is a salsa peice that's sort of like Ricky Martin on a bad acid trip singing the love letters of Allen Ginsberg and Ralph Nader. or something. again, the fourth song could almost be an actual folk song again, and 'long way from nowhere' is almost a bluegrass song only it has real words. :-) Some sho' nuff funky assed blues is on 'since you never ax'd me', enough to make you want to go out and take your bad self back......before ending on the post hippie meltdown of the instrumental 'maltodextrin bean rag', featuring guitar, dobro and mandolin......almost makes you miss jerry, only without the drugs......and if you're wondering what the cover looks like, you're soaking in it! for it's the background of this very page......better grab a copy of this before the next one comes out.........
